Artist Sena Başöz will introduce her exhibition On Lightness and give a walk-through of her works. After the walk-through, the artist's creative documentary film Time Worm (30') produced in 2014 will be screened.
The exhibition, which also includes the research Başöz has conducted at Cité Internationale des Arts artist residency during summer of 2017, focuses on recovery and regeneration. On Lightness seeks for experimental ways of addressing specific traumatic events without evoking them directly. The exhibition creates a framework pertaining to death, renewal and liberation that resorts to multiple transparent layers. The organism's self-repair and the balance nature obtains in the long run constitute the backbone of this narrative.
Time Worm is a creative documentary, which combines documentary footage of silk farming with a collaborative performance of the children of Kulp, Diyarbakır in Eastern Turkey. Shot in a region scarred by armed conflict, Time Worm deals with a traumatic history. It deals with this trauma through the concept of regeneration represented in this case by the silk worms and children. The silkworm's fragile life starts and ends in the hands of humans just before it turns into the silk moth in order to produce a continuous thread of silk from its cocoon. The film captures silk farming; an ancient practice that brings together beauty and destruction.
