Fulya Çetin – That Melts into Air

Depo hosts Fulya Çetin’s solo exhibition, “That Melts into Air”. The paintings she produced since the summer of 2013 are displayed with a number of interventions inclining towards installation which are designed specifically for this exhibition. “That Melts into Air” includes Çetin’s paintings which emerged from her inner speech, from a certain murmuring on her own in her studio, to where she stepped back from the riots, fights, and all the things happening in the streets. We come close and away to these paintings in which some of the fire happens just under our nose, and some others are away almost like taking place in a distant city and air, flames, and smoke intertwine with each other. The cloud gathering above Çetin’s head, and the smoke rising above the fire and destruction melt into each other. These paintings have an aspect which connects the artist’s inner voice to the collective consciousness.

Fulya Çetin graduated from Mimar Sinan University Department of Painting in 1995. Some of the solo exhibitions she had are “River under River” (artSümer 2013), “Good Night” (manzara perspectives 2011), “Collector of Devastation” (44a, 2010) and “Spring Cleaning” (with Nalan Yırtmaç, Karşı Sanat Çalışmaları, 2006). She participated in many group exhibitions like “Stay with Me” (Apartman Project, Berlin, 2014), “Güllük Gülistanlık” (Opelvillen Rüsselsheim, 2012), “Where Fire Has Struck” (DEPO, 2011), “Dirty Story” (BM Suma, 2009), “Legal Tender” (Kasa Galeri, 2007) and Hafriyat exhibitions. Çetin, was involved in Hafriyat Karaköy.
