10 May 2010
The German photographer Lars Kreyssig took portraits of seventeen contemporary Turkish artists for a book entitled “Positionen”, co-published by the Goethe-Institut and the Berlin Fine Arts Academy. Among the artists portrayed are Yaşar Kemal, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Elif Şafak and Şükran Moral. Kreyssig depicted them in their homes and studios, casting light on the private and creative worlds of the artists.
Born and raised in Leipzig, Lars Kreyssig studied at the European Film College in Denmark and at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, which he graduated from in 2007 with distinction. His photographs have been exhibited at art fairs such as Art Cologne and Berliner Liste. His short films have screened at over 50 international film festivals, including in Cannes as part of the “German Films” program, and have received prizes such as the BMW Short Film Award for Best German Short Film. In 2009, he contributed photographs of seventeen contemporary Turkish artists to the book “Positionen”, published by the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts and the Goethe-Institut, together with the Steidl publishing company. Kreyssig currently lives and works in Istanbul and Berlin.
