islomania: Guided tour with the artist and curators
July 5 @ 18:30 - 21:00
As part of the exhibition islomania, which is extended to be on view at Depo until July 8, a guided tour will be held with the participation of the artist Manuel Çıtak and curators Refik Akyüz and Serdar Darendeliler.
“Placed in two diagonally opposite rooms in the space, Terra, which depicts a nude woman washing in an open shower amidst ferns – one of the most ancient plants on the planet – surrounded by a forest with mountains on the horizon and appearing like a goddess in that setting, and Dark Forest (‘Karanlık Orman’), which portrays a century-old natural plane tree forest at twilight, looking like a page out of mythical tale despite its utter serenity, constitute the two main axes of the exhibition: On the one hand are light and bright photographs as an indication of humans successfully blending with nature in order to symbolize islands as a source of attraction, while on the other are dark photographs imparting a sense that there is no way out in order to represent the gloomy aspect of island life. After all, islomania is both about being on an island out of volition, about not wanting to leave, and about a state of entrapment that takes you in but doesn’t let you go, that despite all of its attraction you cannot escape even if you wanted to.”

The guided tour will be held in Turkish and registration is not required to participate.
