Resurgence in Fragments
16/06/2023 @ 18:30 - 05/08/2023 @ 18:30
June 16 – August 5, 2023
Opening: Friday, June 16, 18:30
Depo presents Resurgence in Fragments, a group exhibition curated by Sınır/sız (meaning “Bound/less” in Turkish, made up of the independent activists and artists İlhan Sayın, Şafak Şule Kemancı, Ozan Ünlükoç and Metin Akdemir). The exhibition brings together works by Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı, Üzüm Derin Solak and Furkan Öztekin.
In this exhibition, Bound/less seeks to answer the following question: “Can we mobilise the past by the use of our own archives?”. Resurgence in Fragments aims to revisit through a queer lens the personal archives that empower us and shape our existence.
Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı, Üzüm Derin Solak and Furkan Öztekin’s works seek ways to open up and “give away” material from their own archives, which range from family heirlooms to whistles, fans and flags taken to Pride Marches. While questioning the potential of these archives as tools of survival, Resurgence in Fragments also explores possibilities and queer methods of writing a history of one’s own.
A talk with Berkant Çağlar, Seçil Epik and Fisun Yalçınkaya, who contributed to the exhibition brochure with their texts, as well as a screening of Ayça Damgacı and Tümay Göktepe‘s film Patrida (2021) will take place as part of the exhibition’s public programme.
Bound/less (Sınır/sız) is comprised of İlhan Sayın, Şafak Şule Kemancı, Ozan Ünlükoç and Metin Akdemir who are independent activists/artists with LGBTI+ organizational experiences in Turkey. Bound/less has organised group exhibitions with queer feminist artists, namely Sınırsız (2018) and Sınır/sız ALAN (2019), and prepared Şafak Şule Kemancı’s all the birds would come to my garden (2021) and Zeynep Gönen’s Tanıdık/Tuhaf (2022).
