Mathias Poisson

Miniatures in Tophane

April 6 – April 28, 2013

In his new project Mathias Poisson goes out to discover Tophane area, which is not far from the center but quite different from it, accompanied by residents and workers of the neighborhood. The drawings and the site specific installation he produced after a series of meetings and sensory experiences he had during this discovery are presented at Depo. These trembling drawings which are full of intricate details make up a map that is both personal and collective.

Poisson turns his walks into fields of artistic experimentation. He produces subjective maps and touristic guides which are diverted from their aims and also proposes emotional visits designed as choreographic experiences. He makes exhibitions and performances based on his explorations in off-center neighbourhoods or at little known parts of the city.

The wandering artists invite you to perform walks as a form of artistic activity. The walks which will take place at a neighborhood in Istanbul, with groups of 20 and lasting for 2 hours, promise performances as well as sensory experiences. They help activate the senses and notice the stimuli such as sound, temperature and smell which are often obscured by the hegemony of images.

Dates and times of walks:
Meeting Point: Institut Français / Taksim
5 April Friday, 17:00,
6 April Saturday, 11:00, 17:00
