A look at the 1980 coup d’état and the struggle for democracy through the lens of struggle, testimony, and confrontation

Speakers: Ümide Çelik AysuDemet Demirİkbal ErenEsmahan Ekinci
Moderator: Aylin Tekiner

As part of Doğa Yirik’s exhibition Uninterrupted, on view at Depo until April 11, organized struggle built by women side by side under the shadow of the 1980 coup will be discussed with the participation of women who witnessed the period. The event will open to discussion, from women’s perspective, the areas where past testimonies overlap with today’s women’s struggles, the silences, and evolving yet enduring impact of patriarchy over the years.

Uninterrupted is a body of work by artist Doğa Yirik; it intersects a family narrative with Turkey’s recent past. The artist documents the past activities of a leftist movement and the present lives of its former members, with a focus on the artist’s father, İbrahim Yirik, and unpacks a personal archive assembled by members, relatives, researchers, and witnesses.

The event will be held in Turkish and registration is not required.
