Rethinking the Family: Solidarity and Collective Experiences
March 11, 2026, 18:30
Speakers: Feride Eralp, İris Mozalar
Moderator: Görkem İmrek
As part of Sub Rosa, Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı‘s solo exhibition on view at Depo until April 11, a conversation will be held with the participation of Feride Eralp and İris Mozalar. The event invites participants to rethink the concept of family through contemporary feminist debates and the sharing of experiences. It opens to discussion the present structure of the family within feminist movements, examining it from political, economic, and ideological perspectives. It also addresses the limitations of framing family as an ideological issue in public discourse. Drawing on the concept of the “chosen family,” the talk questions why communities of support are often described in terms of “family” and asks whether forms of solidarity and intimacy beyond the family are possible. Participants are invited to reflect on how questions of family, belonging, and solidarity manifest in everyday life through sharing experiences and collective memory.
Inspired by Sub Rosa’s attention to what is spoken “under the rose,” this gathering invites participants to consider the family as a field in which conflict, care, silence, and collective forms of solidarity intersect and can be explored together, rather than as a fixed and singular structure.
The event will be held in Turkish and registration is not required.
